Marquette Alumnus Charles Mulcahy to Receive Eighth Annual Citizen Support for Our Armed Services Award
Milwaukee Armed Services Committee honors those who support and serve our Armed Forces as civilians.
Milwaukee, April 18, 2017… The Milwaukee Armed Services Committee announced today that Charles ‘Chas’ Mulcahy will be presented with the Eighth Annual Citizen Support for Our Armed Services award on Monday evening, May 16, at the annual Armed Forces Week banquet held at the Wisconsin Club of Milwaukee.
Most notable is his work as Co-founder of the Veterans Community Relations Team (VCRT,) which successfully defended the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center from being acquired by the Milwaukee Art Museum. The War Memorial Center is now an independent entity from government control. In addition, Mulcahy served VCRT as Co-Chair General of the Army Douglas MacArthur exhibit, spearheading the transition of the MacArthur Statue from its original location in MacArthur Square to its current location at Veterans Park.
Mulcahy’s support of the armed forces has been amply demonstrated in his leadership of the Board of the Milwaukee County War Memorial, the VCRT, and the development and promotion of MacArthur Week and subsequent MacArthur lectures. His dedication to acknowledging and supporting those currently serving and our veterans is unsurpassed.
Active in the Community
Mulcahy graduated from Marquette University as well as Marquette University Law School. While there, he received the McCahill award as the outstanding student athlete at Marquette for his success on the tennis team. After graduating, he was on active duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Since 1964, Mulcahy has filled numerous roles in Milwaukee, but has always remained in service to the Armed Forces. He was an elected member of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, an adjunct professor at Marquette University Law School, Chairman at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center, Co-chair of the First MacArthur Memorial Week (and the second, 35 years later).
This year alone, Mulcahy has served as Co-founder of the Al Hurvis/ADAMM Education Foundation “Patriotism Program,” Co-founder of Veterans McCahill Patriots Classic women’s basketball game at the Al McGuire Center, and as the VCRT Co-Chair on the Douglas MacArthur Committee at Milwaukee County War Memorial Center.
